If you live out in the country, far away from any large cities, or even smaller towns, you may have resigned yourself to a life without reliable and fast Internet

If you live out in the country, far away from any large cities, or even smaller towns, you may have resigned yourself to a life without reliable and fast Internet access. At best, you may have a slow dial-up connection that lets you surf the Web at a crawl. However, you should know that this is not your only option. You can actually have an Internet connection that is just as fast as the broadband that is available in cities when you install satellite internet in your home. By using your satellite subscription to access the Internet, you can enjoy very fast speeds.

Satellite television has made it possible for rural families to enjoy hundreds of different channels of television, even if they live far away from anywhere. Similarly, satellite Internet lets you enjoy a blazingly fast Internet connection, no matter where you live. Once you start using satellite Internet, you may be amazed at how quickly you can stream videos, download files, and play online games. Broadband Internet makes it much easier to enjoy all that is available online. As websites require faster and faster access for full enjoyment, you will be able to keep up with their requirements.

Installing satellite Internet is quite easy. If you already use satellite television, you will not even have to have any new equipment installed on your home. You can just contact your provider and let them know that you want to start getting Internet access as well. If you do not yet have satellite television, it will still not take very long to get you hooked up to the Internet. Your provider will just have to install a satellite dish on your home. Then all you need to do is connect your computer to the satellite dish, and you can start surfing the Internet.

Laptops don’t last for a very long time. One minute you have one and the next minute it’s time to get yourself a newer model. You’re lucky if they last

Laptops don’t last for a very long time. One minute you have one and the next minute it’s time to get yourself a newer model. You’re lucky if they last a few years at this moment in time before they’re outdated and too slow for what’s constantly being produced. A new laptop every few years is expensive, but having to get one even quicker than that is torture for some people. Losing all your valuable information is even worse and sometimes it’s hard to recover from it.

Think to yourself whether or not you do everything you can to look after yours. If you dropped it on the floor do you have everything backed up and the insurance to get it replaced? If someone stole it do you have the software that will help you find it? If you’re not up-to-speed with everything you can use to make sure your laptop is safe we can look at them now. Just make sure you start using the suggestions so your machine, or worse still you’re information can’t disappear forever.

Keep it on a leash

You can install tracking software on your laptop and you will always know where it is. This won’t matter much on a regular day, but when someone decides to swipe it from your bag you won’t have any idea where to look without it. The chances of you ever recovering it without tracking software is basically nil. You never want your laptop to be stolen, but when it does you’ll be able to do lots of neat tricks to try and get it back. One of them is watching what the thief does so you can find out all his passwords.

What are they doing?

Sometimes you might get someone wanting your laptop for whatever reason. You might trust them, or you might not. Even if you do trust someone enough to say yes they can do something they shouldn’t be doing and it could break your computer. That’s why using keylogger software is always a good idea. You get to keep a watchful eye on the things people are doing when you’re not paying attention. If they are constantly doing dangerous things you’ll know and can ban them from using it.

Save your passwords

How many passwords do you use at the moment? If you use more than one you know how difficult it is to stay on top of them. Perhaps you’re always forgetting and getting a replacement sent to your email account. If you use password management software you can keep them in a safe place and just remember a master one. You can’t get any easier than that, right?

The cloud is your friend

Sometimes your computer will die for no reason, or your house could even go on fire and wipe out all your hard drives. If you save everything into a cloud backup service there’s no way something tragic would happen. If your computer died and your cloud storage was destroyed on the same day you could possibly win the lottery the very next weekend. Some people do win the lottery, so maybe you could use two separate cloud accounts to be even more secure.

Use a proper bag

This one never gets spoken about enough when we talk about security. You always need to be carrying your laptop around in the right type of bag. One you know will protect your laptop if it falls or someone knocks it from your shoulder. They might cost a little more than a sports bag, but when you go to sleep at night with your laptop nice and safe it’s well worth it. They can actually look pretty stylish too if that’s what you’re worried about.

Looking for the perfect gift for the techie in your life? Here are the hottest tech products of 2012, offering the newest and coolest in tech gadgetry this year. 1.

Looking for the perfect gift for the techie in your life? Here are the hottest tech products of 2012, offering the newest and coolest in tech gadgetry this year.

1. Apple iPad (4th Generation)

If the technology nut on your list doesn’t have a tablet yet, they undoubtedly want one. Tablets have exploded in popularity over the past few years, thanks in large part to the release of Apple’s iPad in 2010. While other tablets have been released in the meantime, many with impressive features and increased affordability, Apple’s offering continues to dominate the competition. It features everything you could dream of in a tablet: beautiful display, a quick and intuitive operating system, an awesome camera, fast Wi-Fi, and an extensive offering of apps. Starting at $499, however, it’s one of the most expensive tablets out there. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, the more basic Amazon Kindle fire has been getting great reviews and starts at $159.

2. Amazon Kindle Paperwhite

Have any avid readers on your gift list? An e-reader could be right up their alley. E-readers allow you to carry around hundreds of books in a small, lightweight, easy-to-use device. Which e-reader should you go for? Look no further than the newest generation of the Amazon Kindle, the earliest iteration of which helped popularize e-readers back in 2007. When it was released earlier this year, the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite was largely recognized as the best e-reader on the market. One of the most impressive features of the Paperwhite is its backlit screen, which, unlike earlier models, allows you to read in the dark. Built in Wi-Fi enables you to download books on the go, and the 8-week battery life means you can take it on vacation without ever worrying about charging it. The Kindle Paperwhite starts at $119.

3. Apple iPhone 5

While smartphones have existed in one form or another for quite some time, they didn’t explode in popularity until Apple released the original iPhone in 2007. Since then, touch screen phones that allow you to browse the internet, download apps, and utilize various types of shopping cart software that have become the norm in cell phone technology. The iPhone 5 is Apple’s newest version of their famed smartphone, and while it has recieved some mixed reviews based on a buggy maps system and comparatively small screen size, it continues to be the most coveted smartphone around. With prices starting at $149 with a service contract, it’s competitively priced as well. This is a gift best suited to someone whose tech-tastes you know very well; smartphones are a very personal item, after all, so it’s important to get a feel for what your gift receiver wants before heading out to the store and buying one.

4. Wii U

For the gamer in your life, consider the Wii U. The successor to the wildly popular Wii system released in 2006, the long anticipated Wii U features a tablet controller, which creates a unique two-screen gaming experience. Once a software update arrives in December, the Wii U will also become the first Nintendo system to go beyond gaming with its new TVii service. According to Nintendo, TVii will offer live TV, streaming services such as Hulu and Netflix, and DVR capabilities all in one place. If your gift recipient has an old Wii, they can use all the same controllers and games on the new system.

Of course all of my kids are pretty tech savvy like their Dad and we like the same sorts of things, technology and gadgets. They all have their big presents, the video games and computer hardware that they asked for made it on the list. So right now I am thinking about the little things. They will all get led torches for our camping expeditions, but that is not much of a start. You can buy them for nearly nothing unless you want to spend a small fortune to get a real tactical flashlight like the police and the military use.

I need to sign up with a new provider of high speed internet in the near future, and I do not have a lot of extra money to spend on

I need to sign up with a new provider of high speed internet in the near future, and I do not have a lot of extra money to spend on a monthly basis, so I am looking for the best prices I can find for a broadband connection. The reason I had to cancel my previous internet service is because they simply charged me far too much money for internet, and I was unable to make the expenditure work with the other bills I have to pay. I am looking for centurylink deals right now, and it seems like they offer some superb prices for high speed internet on their website.

When I first saw the price, I thought it might be too good to be true. I am definitely going to have to do a bit more research before I actually agree to anything or sign up for high speed internet through centurylink, but I am very intrigued. On their site, it says that their broadband connections only cost about 20 dollars a month. That is much lower than what I paid before. In fact, I was paying almost 60 dollars a month for high speed internet before I ended up canceling the service a couple of months ago. I have been going to the library and a couple coffee shops in the area in order to use internet in the mean time. However, I definitely need to hurry up and get a internet connection in my house again, because it is really inconvenient to have to go to another location in order to do something as simple as check your email. I hope that this company does not have any installation fees for their service, because I really do not have much spare cash right now at this point in time.

So now I have Satellite TV with a little dish hidden under a fake rock out in my yard. I did not want it on the house, so I got that. It was a slight chore to set it up, but I looked at it as a project for a weekend. At first I was thinking about just using 4G or Wireless internet, but that was not really practical. I had to figure out if DSL was available. If you click here for dsl coverage you will see that most areas are going to get DSL and if you look around you can find it pretty cheap depending upon your needs. My kids do not agree, but I think that our Internet broadband needs are less than the normal family and in particular I do not think that I should be paying 50 to 60 dollars per month for Cable broadband.

Disaster recovery planning involves developing a written plan for how a business will recover from a catastrophic event. Almost every business, regardless of size, should have a disaster recovery plan

Disaster recovery planning involves developing a written plan for how a business will recover from a catastrophic event. Almost every business, regardless of size, should have a disaster recovery plan in place. Unfortunately, most businesses do not take the time to create one. This means when a catastrophic event occurs, a business is unlikely to recover. Here is a list of the first steps for getting started.

List of Duties and Jobs

The first step in creating a disaster recovery plan is listing all of the jobs associated with the business. This should include every employee and position within the company, from managers to janitors. Jobs that are considered “mission critical,” or what the company relies on in order to sustain, should be marked as important.

It is also important to lay out a set of people who are decision makers. These are the people who can approve the use of resources for recovery. In addition, leaders should be identified who can manage during disasters. These positions should always be filled, to ensure nothing falls through the cracks in the event of an emergency.

Inventory of Equipment

Each employee should have a list of necessary, essential equipment in order for them to complete their duties. These items should be broken down to the bare essentials, especially as there may be limited space after a disaster. The disaster recovery plan should include items such as computers, desks, telephones, software, etc.

Supporting Equipment

The essential equipment will have supporting equipment that is required in order for it to run. For example, if a computer is needed for an employee, consider the supporting equipment behind that. Computers will require things like electricity, software, servers, internet access, backups, etc. In the disaster recovery plan, business owners should include all supporting equipment associated with the essential equipment.

Insurance

When the disaster recovery plan is made, it should also conform to any requirements by insurance. Some insurance providers will provide resources for the business to relocate or purchase necessary equipment. However, this portion of the disaster recovery plan must be disclosed to the insurance company beforehand. Business owners should consider storing a backup copy of their disaster recovery plan with an insurance agent.

Data Center Partners

Companies might also look into partnering with a third-party data center for offsite recovery needs. Data centers offer IT equipment and data storage and backup services. This is often a better, more cost-effective option for disaster recovery. All aspects needed for recovery are housed and maintained by an offsite provider, and it handles all recovery aspects. In addition, the centers often provide dedicated workspace in case a workforce is displaced. This space contains all the essentials for a business to function.

Setting in Motion

Once the disaster recovery plan is complete, it needs to be finalized, reviewed and stored. Disaster recovery plans should never be stored onsite. Instead it should be stored in copy form in an offsite, safe location. After a disaster, employers should locate the copy of their disaster recovery plan and act fast. In the event of a disaster, time is limited. Therefore, the faster a company reacts and recovers, the less likely it will be that the business remains closed.

John Garland believes every company should consider disaster recovery services. These services are critical for keeping businesses running after system failures. Data Centers offering disaster recovery services provide the redundancy

It can become quite challenging for some electronic lovers to build awesome projects because of the escalating prices of electronic products and components. However, if you are short on cash there are many ways in which you can the electronic components you need for your project. This article will show you how you can save big bucks and continue building awesome projects.

1) Check At Home First & Ask Friends

Every home contains some form of old electronic gadgets. Checking at home and visiting your friend’s home can to see if there are any salvageable electronic components lurking in old gadgets can take you one step further towards your getting the bits and bobs your project requires. For instance, old TV sets contain transformers that you can use to step-down power from the mains when working on 12volts projects. Radios and cameras are also full of capacitors, resistors and diodes, which can be used in any project. Once you’ve gathered a few of these things, check the part numbers to see if you can use them in your own project.

2) Go To The Dump

The dumpster is also another place where you might find valuable electronic materials. People have a tendency to dispose of old cell phone chargers, which contain a lot of Zener diodes, useful for building power control circuits. The heating elements of some heaters still function even after the top plug burns out. Old cameras contain flashing units that you can use to build a photographic lighting unit. Old and burnt transformers are also ideal since they provide thin-coated wires for making solenoids.

4) Free samples

Manufacturers like; Fairchild Semiconductor, Texas instruments, STMicroelectronics, MARL and WIMA give free samples to promote their brand. You can liaise with such companies to test their parts and see whether their samples can be of benefit. Such marketing campaigns are great for both the company and its beneficiaries.

There are many ways to go about it, but landing a dependable and affordable policy for your electronics is not as easy as it looks. Nowadays, however, not too many of us can risk forgoing the process. Our smartphones, notebooks, iPads and other treasured devices are not only costly investments, but in many ways they have practically come to run our lives – and losing or breaking them without a back-up plan is simply not a smart move.

Here’s a short guide to choosing the best plan for your buck when it comes to safeguarding your tech toys:

Educate Yourself

You may not know it, but there are swarms of policies out there – not just manufacturer warranties and the ones that are offered to you when you’re checking out of Best Buy or the Apple Store. So, do your research. In fact, manufacturer and in-store policies are often the worst plans to choose. They rarely offer coverage for longer than year, and the type of replacement and repair services they offer pale in comparison to those offered by companies that sell exclusively extended warranty programs, and not the electronics themselves.

Make Sure Your Get the Protection You Need

The first thing most people check when buying anything is the price tag. But when it comes to purchasing a service plan, it’s just as important to know what type of protection you are buying. For instance, while one plan might cover you in the event of an accident like dropping your iPad in a puddle and causing irreversible water-damage, that same plan may not protect you in the case you lose the device or have it stolen from you.

Know You Are Always Covered

Some insurance programs only cover you for a single claim during the period of your contract, or against the value of your device. Keep your eyes open for terms that enable you to file at least two or three claims per contract term – after all, if it happened once, it can happen again!

Gather the Support You Need

In the event of a mishap that renders your BlackBerry inoperative, chances are you will need it fixed ASAP. For this reason, you’ll want to make sure you are connected to a tech support team that will be there round-the-clock to answer your questions, file your claim, schedule your repair or replacement and help get you on the fast track to a new or repaired device. Some support teams can even assist you with sorting out problems by simply walking you through steps over the phone. The better the customer service, the faster your tech problems will disappear – it’s as simple as that.

Be Wary of Premiums

Some warranty or insurance providers will actually require you to pay a hefty premium or deductible before even attempting to fix or replace your electronic device. Obviously, your best bet is to land a provider that will do the work for free – but in the case that there is a premium, you should certainly know exactly how much it will run to repair your tablet. Premiums can cost you anywhere between $50 to $100!

Be On the Lookout for Unique Savings or Benefits

Lots of programs offer price cuts or features depending on your exclusive situation. For example, some warranty programs offer huge discounts for educators. So never be shy to ask if you might qualify for special benefits.
